Troop Meetings

Troop meetings are held year round on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the

Community Presbyterian Church
2800 Georgia Street, Vallejo

Patrol Leader Council Meeting's (PLC) are held following the District Roundtable and will be scheduled by the Scoutmaster.  There are presently being held at the Community Presbyterian Church.  Click here to check out the meeting minutes.

Assistant Scoutmaster Meeting's are held the Wednesday following the PLC meeting at 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Scoutmaster's house.

Purpose

All troop meetings are led by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and the activities are run by the boys. They follow the program plan developed by the Patrol Leaders' Council (a monthly meeting of the youth leaders of the troop).

 Meetings are held to:
Provide leadership opportunities for the boys
Plan and prepare for various troop activities
Enjoy lively games, competition, and other recreational events
Provide experiences toward advancement and merit badge attainment
Feature occasional speakers on a variety of topics of interest to the boys
Reinforce the principles of Scouting
     Additionally, troop meetings are the best opportunity for Scouts and parents to see what activities are scheduled for the year. The latest monthly and yearly troop activity calendars are always posted at the rear of the meeting hall at every troop meeting. Sign up sheets are also posted for upcoming activities that require advance "registration" by Scouts who plan to attend and for adults who plan to attend and/or drive. The sign up sheet is generally posted 2-3 weeks prior to most outings and up to 2 months prior to major activities such as high adventure treks or summer camp. Notices for various activities are also sent home with the Scouts and a Troop 77 newsletter is published by a parent volunteer every month or two.
There is also a sign up sheet for Scouts to sign up for a Scoutmaster Conference, which is required for a Scout's rank advancement, and for adults that wish to participate in a Board of Review, also required for rank advancement.
     Ceremonies (e.g., opening and closing flag ceremonies, award presentation, etc.) also play an integral part of troop meetings.

Dress Code

     Scouts are required to wear the troop uniform to all troop meetings and to/from all troop outings and other activities.

     Troop 77's uniform consists of the Scout shirt with the required patches, neckerchief, slide, and a Scout cap (baseball style). Scout pants or Scout shorts are not required; however, they are recommended for Courts of Honor or other official ceremonies where the full Scout uniform would be appropriate.

General Behavior

The guidelines for acceptable behavior for all scout activities are contained in the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan as stated in the Boy Scout Handbook.

     Fighting, bad language,hitting, harassing, or in any way causing harm or subjecting a Scout to harm is out of character with Scouting and is prohibited! The first incident will, at the very least, involve counseling by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) or Patrol Leader. Depending on the severity of the incident, this could also include a meeting of the Patrol Leaders' Council Court (the troop-elected boy leadership team, who, with their adult leader guidance, attempts to investigate and resolve the incident) and/or immediate parent notification. Depending on the type of problem, parents may be required to attend functions with their Scout to monitor behavior.  Troop meetings and outings are not child care.  The program will not be degraded as a result of a few who fail to cooperate.  At a minimum, the second incident will result in counseling by the Scoutmaster. A third occurrence will lead to a phone call to the parents and a request to pick up their son. This includes during outings!

     Each Scout in Troop 77 (and similarly, any of his family members) has a responsibility to protect and respect our meeting place as well as the property of the troop and his fellow Scouts. Any damage or loss incurred (intentional, accidental, or otherwise) will be the responsibility of those who cause it.

     National Scout policy prohibits alcohol and/or drug use or possession by anyone at any Boy Scout function. One of our many goals is to provide a drug, alcohol, and smoke free environment in which the boys can enjoy their Scouting experience.
